Repentance
When Jesus was confronted with the adulterous woman he didn’t sit there telling her how wrong she had been. He didn’t sit there shaming her in front of everyone, telling her she SHOULD’VE done things differently, or she COULD’VE made a different choice. That’s what the Scribes and the Pharisees were trying to do.
NO, He accepted her RIGHT WHERE SHE WAS AT. No shaming involved, and said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” (John 8:11)
Repentance is giving OURSELVES the same grace and love the Savior has for us. It’s simply acknowledging and accepting where we are at and then turning to the Savior and pivoting our actions into growth and improvement.
We spend so much time and brain space questioning and shaming ourselves for the past, for what might have been and for what we COULD’VE or SHOULD’VE done differently, when in reality it’s over and done and the Atonement of Jesus Christ has already paid for it.
So let’s stop punishing and shaming ourselves into change and start loving ourselves into change the way Christ would.
